About the Role
The Research Associate will play a vital role in evaluating the potential for geographic, geologic, and techno-economic constraints to lead to bottlenecks in the development of large-scale CO2 storage globally. You will work with our team to analyze and develop models that assess the physical and techno-economic limitations to scaling up CO2 storage regionally. Additionally, you will collaborate with a consortium and stakeholders to establish a register of annual amounts of CO2 stored underground, ultimately constructing models for plausible development trajectories that can be incorporated into energy systems models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and analysis to evaluate the potential for geographic, geologic, and techno-economic constraints to lead to bottlenecks in the development of large-scale CO2 storage globally
- Develop and apply models to assess the physical and techno-economic limitations to scaling up CO2 storage regionally
- Collaborate with a consortium and stakeholders to establish a register of annual amounts of CO2 stored underground
- Construct models for plausible development trajectories that can be incorporated into energy systems models
- Publish research findings in leading journals and present at conferences
- Contribute to the development of the Subsurface CO2 Storage Research Group's research agenda and strategy
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual who meets the following criteria:
- A completed or near-to-be-completed PhD, or equivalent, in the modelling and analysis of subsurface carbon storage, energy systems, or integrated assessment models, or in a related field
- A track record of publishing papers in leading journals
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and apply complex models
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and team members
- A strong understanding of the role of CO2 storage in climate change mitigation and the challenges associated with large-scale deployment
