Job Summary
A global life sciences organization is hiring an Import/Export Operations Specialist to manage the day-to-day coordination of import and export activities for seed and non-seed items entering and exiting the United States. This role is critical to ensuring compliant, accurate, and efficient trade operations that support production sites, foreign manufacturing partners, and end customers. The position works closely with internal teams and external partners to meet regulatory, customer, and production requirements.
Responsibilities
Perform import and export activities with minimal supervision in compliance with all applicable government regulations and internal policies.
Coordinate and expedite import/export processes by working with regional coordinators, warehousing and distribution teams, and plant and production planning.
Manage logistics for import and export shipments across multiple transportation modes, including ocean, air, land, and rail.
Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, transportation partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and compliant shipments.
Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with U.S. and foreign regulatory and customer requirements.
Audit import/export files to ensure records are maintained in an audit-ready state.
Participate in internal and external audits, including those conducted by regulatory agencies.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of orders for assigned countries and/or product portfolios.
Stay current on import/export regulations through formal training and self-directed learning.
Develop, maintain, and train team members and stakeholders on standard operating procedures.
Collaborate cross-functionally and internationally to identify best practices and drive continuous improvement.
Serve as a key point of contact for foreign partners and customers.
Handle complex global trade accounts and trade lanes.
Act as a subject matter expert for assigned business units and trade operations.
Support projects and perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Required:
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Working knowledge of import/export regulations and trade compliance requirements.
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours when required.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, International Commerce, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in import/export operations, supply chain, international trade, or a related area.
Working knowledge of applicable regulations related to APHIS, Customs and Border Protection, USDA, and other government agencies.
Experience with trade and data systems such as MS Office Suite, SAP, GTS, ACE, Amber Road, or OneSource.
Strong project management, deadline management, and analytical skills.
Experience with agricultural and/or chemical products.
