About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Science Tutor and Peer Educator to join our team and support the success of our SSS STEM students. As a hybrid remote and on-campus opportunity, this role offers the flexibility to balance your time between our remote office and your home. We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated individual with a strong passion for science education and a commitment to helping students achieve their academic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Tutor Science classes to WSU students who are participating in SSS STEM, providing individualized support and guidance to help them succeed.
- Work with students to develop a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and principles, and to improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Collaborate with other tutors and educators to develop and implement effective tutoring strategies and programs.
- Provide intentional mentoring to students on a one-on-one basis, focusing on topics such as navigation of campus resources, connection to campus and community, and preparation for graduation and beyond.
- Work with students to set and achieve academic goals, and to develop a growth mindset and a love of learning.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on best practices in science education and tutoring.
Essential Qualifications
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Grades of B+ or higher in classes needed for tutoring.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Work Study eligible preferred.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of academic ability.
- Knowledge of science education and tutoring best practices.
- Ability to work with students who have disabilities or other special needs.
