Position Overview
The arenaflex Security Response Center team is looking for a skilled and motivated Data Scientist to meet the growing demands and challenges of cybersecurity and threat protection. As a Data Scientist on our team, you will collaborate with world-class experts, fellow data scientists, and researchers to investigate, design, build, and deploy statistical, machine learning, and AI models that protect the arenaflex Cloud from known and emerging cyberattacks.
In your daily work, you will perform data analysis on massive datasets, uncover valuable insights, conduct hypothesis testing, experiment with models, validate experiments, integrate quality monitors, and ship successful models to production. This is a part-time remote position offering competitive compensation of $25/hour, providing flexibility while you contribute to one of the most impactful teams in the technology industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Model Development: Create statistical, machine learning, and AI-based security models for cybersecurity and intrusion detection that are feasible, scalable, and meet business objectives. Your models will directly contribute to protecting arenaflex's vast cloud infrastructure and millions of users worldwide.
- Business Alignment: Understand issues facing programs and utilize knowledge of data science to uncover significant factors that can influence outcomes on specific products. Articulate the essential objectives of the team from a business perspective and generate project plans to resolve strategic steps required for completion.
- Data Management: Secure and prepare datasets for modeling purposes while ensuring data integrity and privacy compliance. Develop robust pipelines that maintain data quality and enable efficient model training and evaluation.
- Machine Learning Expertise: Apply knowledge of ML solutions including classification, regression, clustering, forecasting, NLP, and image recognition. Implement algorithms such as linear and logistic regression, k-means, gradient boosting, ARIMA, RNN, and LSTM networks to identify the best approaches to achieve objectives.
- Technical Implementation: Write scripts in appropriate languages including T-SQL, U-SQL, KQL, Python, R, and others as needed. Develop hypotheses, design controlled experiments, analyze results using statistical tests, and communicate findings to business partners effectively.
- Model Deployment: Understand operational considerations of model deployment including performance, scalability, monitoring, support, and integration into engineering production systems. Develop operational models that run at scale through collaboration with data engineering teams.
- Tool Proficiency: Foster understanding of the arenaflex toolset in AI and ML including Azure AI, Azure Cognitive Services, and Azure Databricks. Translate complex statistics and ML topics into understandable concepts for stakeholders.
- Security Collaboration: Work closely with security threat experts to understand cyberattack tactics and build security models that are accessible to the team. Bridge the gap between technical modeling and practical cybersecurity applications.
- Business Impact: Use business data and technical expertise to provide feedback for engineering teams to identify potential future business opportunities. Develop a better understanding of work being done in the team and propose collaboration efforts across departments.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce project designs and assess situations for resources, opportunities, requirements, assumptions, and constraints. Share knowledge through meetings, white papers, blog posts, and contribute to thought leadership and intellectual property development.
- Code Quality: Write productive, readable, extensible code from scratch that spans multiple features and configurations. Develop technical expertise in appropriate modeling, coding, and debugging techniques such as finding, isolating, and resolving errors or defects.
- Technical Stack: Utilize expertise in big data software concepts including Hadoop Ecosystem, Apache Spark, CI/CD, Docker, Delta Lake, MLflow, AML, and REST API usage and development.
Mentorship & Leadership
- Mentor less experienced engineers in standards and best practices for data analysis and modeling
- Provide guidance on understanding organizational dynamics, interrelationships among teams, design constraints, and resource limitations
- Coach and tutor less experienced team members on coding and debugging best practices as needed
- Present results and findings to senior client partners and influence stakeholders through compelling data storytelling
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience: 2+ years of data science experience managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical methods, and reporting results
- Programming: 2+ years of programming experience in Python OR Scala
- Technical Skills: Strong foundation in statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization
- Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences on data quality issues and trends
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud-based ML platforms and services
- Background in cybersecurity or threat intelligence analysis
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and distributed computing frameworks
- Experience with Azure AI, Azure Cognitive Services, or Azure Databricks
- Knowledge of NLP, computer vision, or deep learning applications
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and MLOps practices
- Experience working in agile development environments
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Skills & Competencies
- Statistical Analysis: Proficiency in hypothesis testing, experimental design, and statistical inference
- Machine Learning: Expertise in supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, model evaluation, and optimization
- Programming: Strong coding skills in Python, R, Scala, or similar languages
