Summary
We are seeking an experienced Trust Accountant to manage trust accounting for our single family rental property management company. This is a remote contract position requiring someone who can hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain trust/escrow accounts in full compliance with state property management regulations
- Perform monthly trust reconciliations and ensure all owner and tenant funds are properly segregated
- Process owner disbursements and generate accurate monthly owner statements
- Reconcile security deposit accounts and track liability balances
- Monitor trust account activity for discrepancies and resolve issues promptly
- Prepare month-end and year-end financial reports
- Ensure proper documentation and audit trail for all trust transactions
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of property management trust accounting experience (real estate trust accounting is essential)
- Hands-on experience with AppFolio Property Manager (this is non-negotiable)
- Strong understanding of trust accounting regulations and compliance requirements
- Proven track record of accurate monthly trust reconciliations with zero tolerance for errors
- Experience managing accounts for multiple property owners with separate ledgers
- Proficiency with bank reconciliations and general ledger accounting
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal oversight
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience specifically with single family rental portfolios
- Background in property management accounting at a mid-sized firm (150+ properties)
- Professional certification (CPB, CB, or similar)
