Senior Database Specialist - PostgreSQL (Azure)
Start date asap, 1 year engagement.
Senior level DBA experience (5+ years) supporting Production Applications on PostgreSQL (Azure) & Microsoft’s SQL Server platforms in a high pressure environment (e.g. Trading)
Contract details: EU passport holder with remote or hybrid with a requirement to travel and work on-site in Switzerland or Spain for approximately one week every five weeks.
Act as single point of contact & co-ordinate PostgreSQL (Azure) topics for the Database Services Team
Define the best practice setup configuration and operation of PostgreSQL (Azure) systems for maximum security, stability and performance
Operating, managing & supporting PostgreSQL (Azure) & Microsoft SQL Server (on premise & Azure) solutions
Implement and advise on Industry standard, best practice and creative database solutions
Work closely with Operations, Development and Business teams to identify operational & performance issues
Participate in the testing, delivery and deployment of database improvements through the software development lifecycle and into production
Use internal and external monitoring tools to identify trends in technical system performance
Proactively lead and own database problems and incidents to resolution
Implement alerting and processes to prevent and identify database issues to reduce operational and business impact
Document and share knowledge to increase the overall technical understanding of the Operations and Development teams
Communicate and cooperate with vendors on issue resolution
Requirements
Senior level DBA experience (5+ years) supporting Production Applications on PostgreSQL (Azure) & Microsoft’s SQL Server platforms in a high pressure environment (e.g. Trading)
Demonstrable experience of defining & implementing best practice configuration & operating standards for PostgreSQL (Azure)
Experience of migrating to PostgreSQL (Azure)
High availability and DR solutions
Production system monitoring across all levels of the technology stack (Network, SAN, Servers, Database instance, Database)
Performance tuning
A PLUS
Microsoft’s BI toolset: Analysis Services, Reporting Services, Integration Services & PowerBI
Other database products & technologies, exposure to Oracle.
Exposure to automating tasks using Powershell or community solutions
DevOps principles & tools
Knowledge of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) standards and the principles of service delivery
