Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the entire billing cycle, from initial claim submission to the resolution of complex denials, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing.
- Manage challenging accounts by conducting follow-ups, appeals, and credit balance adjustments, with a focus on effective resolution and minimal lost revenue.
- Proactively investigate claim denials, resolve issues by reviewing medical records, coding, and payer contracts, and implement corrective actions to prevent future denials.
- Compose persuasive appeal letters and advocate for claim reversals, ensuring strict compliance with billing regulations and guidelines.
- Analyze daily clearinghouse rejections, identify persistent issues, and implement necessary corrective actions to optimize the billing process.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient financial records, documenting all relevant account activities and ensuring data integrity.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to secure essential documentation for timely claim submission and reimbursement.
- Manage claims across a variety of payer types, including Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and more, staying up-to-date on payer-specific requirements and regulations.
- Prioritize aged accounts and handle denial and appeal projects to meet established key performance indicators (KPIs), driving revenue growth and reducing lost revenue.
- Foster strong relationships with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers to facilitate the resolution of billing issues and ensure accurate claim submissions.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A strong understanding of medical terminology, billing processes, and revenue cycle management.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to analyze complex data and identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Proficiency with ICD-10 Medical Coding and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), as well as experience with electronic health records (EHRs) and practice management systems.
- Experience using EPIC systems, with a strong understanding of their functionality and capabilities.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively build relationships with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare providers.
- A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in medical accounts receivable.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Advanced knowledge of medical billing software and technology, including clearinghouse platforms and billing systems.
- Experience with denial management and appeals processes, with a proven track record of success in reducing denial rates and improving revenue cycle efficiency.
- Certifications such as CPC, CIC, or CPB, demonstrating expertise in medical billing and coding.
