Job Summary
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Lukens Lab, you will have the opportunity to work on a project investigating the contributions of inflammasomes, immune-based DNA damage sensors, ITAM/ITIM receptors, and microbiota to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disease. You will be responsible for managing your own projects, interacting with other lab members and collaborators, presenting your work at lab meetings and conferences, and contributing to grant applications and manuscripts for publication. This position offers a unique chance to develop your research skills, learn new techniques, and contribute to the development of novel therapies for Alzheimer’s disease.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, conduct, and analyze experiments to investigate the roles of the innate immune system and cell death pathways in Alzheimer’s disease
- Manage and maintain accurate records of experiments, results, and methodologies
- Present research findings at lab meetings, conferences, and seminars
- Contribute to the preparation of grant applications, manuscripts, and other written materials
- Mentor and teach students, as well as collaborate with other lab members and external researchers
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field and apply this knowledge to improve research design and methodology
Essential Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in immunology, neuroscience, or a related field by the start date of the appointment
- First author publication(s) in a reputable scientific journal
- Experience in the independent conduct of laboratory experiments, including experimental design, data analysis, and data management
- Interest and confidence in developing new techniques for hypothesis testing
- High level of motivation and technical capacity to drive a research project
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, demonstrated by a strong publication record and presentations at conferences
- Ability to work with others as part of a team, including both teaching and learning from others
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background in neurodegenerative disease research, neurobiology, or immunology
- Experience with mouse models of neurodegenerative disease
- Experience with one or more of the following methods: confocal microscopy, cell or tissue culture, molecular biology, RNA-sequencing and bioinformatics, behavior studies, and flow cytometry
- Demonstrated creativity and flexibility in experimental design or new methods
