Our Customer Care Tax team works closely with customers, tax agencies, and internal teams to ensure seamless payroll tax experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and Resolve Payroll Tax Issues: Investigate and provide timely resolutions to payroll tax issues raised by internal stakeholders and customers, ensuring accurate and efficient outcomes.
- Customer Support: Assist customers with tax-related questions through inbound warm transferred phone calls and emails, providing a customer-first experience and resolving queries in a professional and courteous manner.
- Collaboration with Internal Teams and Tax Agencies: Work closely with internal operations teams and tax agencies to obtain accurate payroll tax account information, ensuring timely and accurate payroll tax filings and payments.
- Payroll Tax Jurisdiction Account Management: Help customers identify their payroll tax jurisdiction account information and make routine updates as needed to ensure timely filing and payment of payroll tax obligations.
- Reconciling Payroll Tax Liability: Review and assist employers with reconciling payroll tax liability debits/credits to their bank accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and recommending process improvements.
- Third-Party Agent (TPA) Setup: Collaborate with customers to complete TPA setup, ensuring seamless interactions with tax agencies.
- Tax Agency Correspondence: Correspond with tax agencies regarding tax notices, inquiries, tax penalty abatements/waivers, and tax clearances, providing expert representation for blithequark customers.
- Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Tax Filings: Assist in tax filings and participate in special projects and other duties assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To succeed as a Customer Care Tax Expert - Payroll at blithequark, you should possess:
- 2+ Years of Customer Satisfaction Experience: A proven track record of championing customer experiences and driving satisfaction in a previous role.
- 2+ Years of Payroll Service Bureau Experience: Prior experience working in a payroll service bureau environment, with a deep understanding of payroll taxes, including federal, state, local, and paid family leave.
- Strong Problem-Solving and Communication Skills: Excellent critical problem-solving, customer communication, organizational, and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite: Strong technical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite, and the ability to learn new tools and systems.
- Experience with Sensitive/Confidential Information: A proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications and Nice-to-Haves
While not essential, the following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:
- MasterTax Experience: Previous experience working with MasterTax or similar tax software.
- FPC or CPP Certification: Holding a certification such as FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) is a plus.
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree: Possessing an Associates or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is desirable.

Training and Schedule Requirements
As a Customer Care Tax Expert - Payroll at blithequark, you will undergo a comprehensive 5-week training program, Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm CST. During this period, you will not be permitted to take PTO, although you will have Christmas Day (12/25/24) and New Year's Day (01/01/25) off. After training, you will be assigned a new schedule, which may include early mornings, evenings, and/or holidays, with flexibility required across a range of schedules (7:30 am to 7:00 pm CST, Monday to Friday).
