We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help maintain and evolve our backend platform. Our current backend is built on a Node.js–based framework backed by an Oracle database (hosted on AWS RDS) and supports React single-page applications. Our infrastructure runs on AWS EC2.
While this role includes contributing to ongoing feature development, a key responsibility will be helping guide the transition toward a more modern backend architecture and framework. This is a hands-on role with meaningful influence over backend design, technical direction, and long-term maintainability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs
- Work within an existing Node.js backend, improving stability, performance, and maintainability
- Deploy and manage backend services on AWS EC2
- Contribute to planning and executing the migration to a modern backend
framework
- Collaborate closely with frontend and full-stack engineers on end-to-end feature delivery
- Define and apply backend architecture patterns, API design standards, and best practices
- Work with AWS RDS (Oracle, PostgreSQL) to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability
- Evaluate application health and performance using AWS CloudWatch or similar tooling
- Participate in code reviews and provide technical guidance on backend-related topics
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong experience as a backend engineer working on production system
- Solid experience with Node.js backend development and modern backend frameworks
- Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL)
- Experience with AWS infrastructure, particularly EC2 and RDS
- Understanding of cloud networking fundamentals (VPCs, security groups, load balancers)
- Familiarity with authentication, authorization, and backend security best
practices
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience modernizing or incrementally migrating backend platforms
- Deeper AWS experience (IAM, CloudWatch, ALB, Parameter Store/Secrets Manager)
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Cloud Formation, or CDK)
- Experience mentoring engineers or acting as a technical lead
