AI Engineer / Scientist — Computer Vision & Deep Learning (Health Technology)
Budget: $500/month (part-time)
Hours: 20–25 hrs/week
Location: Remote
Company: UNVRS AI Technologies (UK-based)
About the Project
We are building next-generation AI systems that use computer vision and deep learning to analyse biological samples from mobile devices.
Our product is early-stage, innovative, and involves:
• advanced computer vision
• image-based inference
• multi-task deep learning
• mobile AI pipelines
• real-time inference optimisation
We are assembling a small, high-calibre team of AI engineers and scientists to help develop and scale our core models.
This role is ideal for someone who:
• is excited by hard technical problems
• wants to work on meaningful health technology
• thrives in an early startup environment
• enjoys combining research + engineering
What You’ll Be Working On (High Level — No sensitive details)
• Building and improving CV models for analysing small biological samples
• Designing multi-task learning systems running on mobile-device image inputs
• Feature extraction, model training, optimisation, and evaluation
• Building pipelines that combine image features + metadata + ground-truth values
• Supporting dataset structuring (annotation specs, pre-processing, labelling logic)
• Implementing inference flows that can run on backend servers or mobile apps
• Researching state-of-the-art methods in:
• visual biomarkers
• signal extraction
• multi-head architectures
• weakly supervised learning
Required Skills
• Strong background in deep learning & computer vision
• PyTorch or TensorFlow
• CNNs, ViTs, multi-task architectures
• Experience training models on RGB images
• Understanding of:
• feature extraction
• augmentation pipelines
• supervised learning with noisy labels
• Experience building inference-ready models
• Ability to read research papers and propose solutions quickly
• Strong research mindset — experimental, curious, scientifically rigorous
⭐ Bonus Skills (Not required, but highly valued)
• Experience with medical imaging or biological datasets
• Experience building computer-vision pipelines for mobile or edge devices
• Knowledge of data engineering or MLOps
• Scientific background (bio/biomed/physics/math)
What We’re Looking For in a Person
• Ownership mindset — you take responsibility for your domain
• Can work independently and propose solutions
• Comfortable in ambiguity, fast iteration, and experimentation
• Able to research, prototype, test, refine
• Strong communication and clarity
